VERDE VALLEY WATER USERS, INC.
If you use well water or irrigate with stream water, the future of your water right is at risk...
Over 20 years ago, the Salt River Project filed lawsuits asking the courts to determine the water rights for the use of “surface water” in the Gila River System, including the Verde River and its tributaries. In response to this threat to continued use of water in our community, the Verde Valley Water Users (VVWU) was incorporated to inform and assist the membership in matters pertaining to the general adjudication. As the only claimant organization of small water users in the state, the VVWU’s attorney was appointed to the trial Court’s complex litigation Steering Committee. This provides the VVWU with the opportunity to participate in the Adjudication Steering Committee and receive copies of all motions, briefs, and Superior and Supreme Court orders.
Since its formation in 1984, the Verde Valley Water Users, Inc. (VVWU) has worked to protect Verde Valley area water rights. There is strength in numbers. Without the support of all area water users, the VVWU may not be as effective in this fight.
VVWU is dedicated to preserving the water rights of it's membership.
VERDE VALLEY WATER USERS, INC.
Two-thirds of Arizona's water resources are currently in jeopardy. Cities, farmers, Indian tribes and other large water users aim to acquire rights to as much water as possible, including ours. Verde Valley Water Users, Inc. is the only organization in the Verde Valley dedicated to assisting its members in matters pertaining to existing right litigation.
The general stream adjudication is a judicial proceeding to determine or establish the extent and priority of water rights in the Gila River system. Claimants and water users are joined in these proceedings that will result in the Superior Court issuing a comprehensive final decree of water rights.
Please see below several links that will give you additional information and a broader scope of the history and current standing of the adjudication.
WATER RIGHTS RESEARCH PROGRAM
The Verde Valley Water Users (VVWU) has teamed with Southwestern Environmental Consultants (SEC) to research the status of stream and well filings for landowners in the Verde Valley. SEC brings over 30 years of experience with water right and well filings to this project.
Why is it important that your well and surface water right filings are correct and current? The Verde River is part of the Gila River System adjudication, which has been in the courts for more than 30 years, and will determine the relative priorities and validity of water claims. Failure to file a claim could result in the loss of right to use “surface” water, which includes certain wells.
If you would like for us to research the water claims on your property, please call Jamee Reddell at (928) 340-4216 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
